Over the last three years we explored sixty-three operas and a legion of composers. In the second half of last year we focused on operas from Shakespeare plays. This took us to Purcell, Britten, Bellini, Gounod, Bernstein, Verdi, Ades, Brett Dean, and not forgetting the marvellous Baroque pastiche of The Enchanted Island. Visit the past three years of our website offerings at http://www.opera.prettyhill.org/.
This year we are starting with Rossini and - as our Shakespeare finale - it's his Otello, and a sideways look at Verdi's version of the same play. In our next blog post, we'll set the scene for our first meeting.
